You’ve probably heard me talk about the upside-down kingdom values of God before. Well, I’m not endorsing this Bible but I thought it was interesting that Preston Sprinkle has a new Bible out called The Upside-Down Kingdom Bible. I don’t think we need all these study Bibles. Maybe I’m a cynic but they seem like only a way to make money. “I have opinions on the Bible. Give me money.” But this is America, I guess. Since we have unlovingly withheld support from each other via voting to not have social nets in place, we have to trade on the non-upside-down kingdom of mammon’s currency. (What if Christians purposefully embraced the upside-down kingdom, forgot about ROI, and relied on God instead of worldly kinship with mammon? just thinking with my fingertips…)
Here’s the interesting part. There’s a free download of the book of Matthew. If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you know that I’ve been encouraging people to read through the Sermon on the Mount as often as possible this year. Every day would be excellent! I haven’t done that, but I have been doing it weekly! I have quite a bit of it memorized. The Sermon of the Mount is in Matthew.
Here’s some snippets from The Sermon on the Mount section:
What do you think?
Migration, what do you think of this take?
Another hot topic. What do you think?
Did you know that 1st century Christians didn’t think wealthy people could be saved? My husband always says that Christians can be rich but they can’t stay rich - not if they’re doing the things of God’s kingdom.
What say you?
So that’s it from this section of Preston’s Bible. I won’t be getting this Bible. I don’t have a problem with this perspective. But I’m really tired of commercializing the word of God. If you’re one of my friends who has an article in this Bible, I still love you and I hope you still love me.
Meanwhile, I keep fasting and praying to end the Trump era of American history. And I’m still listening to the Sermon on the Mount here:
Love your thought process. I did study the Sermon on the Mount once. It did open my eyes and heart. I’m on a holiday right now. When I get home I will search for the study.
I run a Bible Study group on Facebook. We are finishing off reading the Bible in a year chronologically. I did buy that Bible. 😀
The Sermon on the Mount might be our next study. One verse at a time. I also have a study journal. This will work well with that.
I’m new to Substack. Found you through Christy Wood. So glad I did. You inspired me this
morning.
I’m a Canadian and your politics, well what can I say? It is seeping into Canada. Please pray for protection for our country. I’ll pray for yours.
PS
I have tons of Bibles. I pick them up at garage sales. I also have a Native NT Bible. Amazing poetic language. I have a Polish Bible given to me on a mission trip. I have a copy of The Message and The Voice. I write in my Bibles.
I have two journaling Bibles. I’m an artist. Why two, you ask? We used to own a place in Arizona. I couldn’t take every book on the plane with everything else, so bought another one. 😂
Blessings,
Janis
I share your feelings on Bible publishing. This line made me smile this morning.
