He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley…
The Lord refreshes his soul. The Lord guides him along the darkest valley which is the right path. The righteous path is often the darkest and loneliest. For Jesus, it was truly the valley of the shadow of death.
Green pastures and still waters. This is how a sacrificial lamb is restored.
How was Jesus restored while he ministered on earth?
We always think of his last week as his “suffering” but wasn’t he suffering from the moment he took on flesh? To be God of the universe and be reduced to a zygote. He suffered the entire time he was one of us. Does he still suffer?
He fed the crowds but Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. He walked on stormy seas. He calmed the wind and waves and napped in storms. Are these the green pastures and the quiet waters that refresh his soul?
For the name of the Lord, Jesus allowed himself to be led to Golgotha.
The righteous path is a sacrificial path. We are not exempt.
